The short version. This site sets no advertising cookies, no tracking cookies and no third-party cookies. We store one thing on your device — whether you picked light or dark mode — and we count visits in a way that cannot identify you. That is why you are not being asked to accept anything.

That is the complete list. We do not use session cookies, we do not fingerprint your device, and we do not embed anything from a third party — the fonts, images and scripts on this site are all served from our own server.
How we count visits
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how many people visit the site, which pages they read and roughly where in the world they are. It sets no cookies, writes nothing to your device and does not fingerprint your browser. It cannot follow you across other websites, and it produces aggregate counts only — there is no profile of you to look at, ours or anyone else's.
Why there is no cookie banner
Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, consent is needed before storing or reading information on your device — unless what you are doing falls into one of a short list of exceptions. Since 5 February 2026, when the relevant part of the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 came into force, those exceptions include adapting how a site appears in line with a preference you have set, and collecting aggregate statistics about how a site is used.
Remembering your light or dark choice falls squarely into the first. Our visit counting does not store or read anything on your device at all, so it never engages these rules in the first place. Both exceptions come with a condition: tell people plainly what is happening and give them a simple, free way to object. That is what this page is for, and the next section is the opt-out.
We would rather show you an honest page than a banner that pretends there was a decision to make.
Your controls
- The theme preference. Clearing site data for rannochdigital.com in your browser removes it. The site works perfectly well without it — it will simply follow its default each time you arrive.
- Visit counting. Any content blocker, or your browser's tracker blocking, will stop the analytics script loading. Nothing on the site depends on it.
- Everything else. Every browser lets you block or delete cookies and site data entirely. This site will keep working if you do.
Changes
If we add anything that stores or reads information on your device, we will update this page before we switch it on — and if it needs your consent, we will ask for it properly.
